Mental Health
When psychotropic medications are more effective and safer to use with new development in neuroscience for severe mental illness, there are times people with mental illness are suffering from lack of response to the medication and prominent side effects.
In addition, people with mental illness are more susceptible to other medical conditions due to their lifestyle and side effects of medication. Taking an integrative approach and addressing these issues are crucial to the recovery and wellbeing of these people.
Whether it is deficit in nutrition, tobacco and substance abuse, poor coping skills - all make them good candidates for our Tao Integrative Psychiatry Service. Our clinical work has shown that acupuncture and Chinese herbal remedies have helped people respond better to medication and counteract potential side-effects. Consequently, it improves their compliance with medication and reduces the number of medications prescribed.
Studies have shown that acupuncture helps regulate neurotransmitters. The conditions we treat at the Tao Institute include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic disorders, sleep disorders, and the chronic form of schizophrenia.
