What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive training technique to teach patient to learn how to modify his or her brainwave activity to improve attention, reduce impulsivity, and to control hyperactive behaviors. Unlike medication, nothing is put into the body or brain. The training is very gentle, and nothing is forced.

What Are the Benefits?

The essence of neurofeedback is self-regulation, teaching the brain to regulate itself. Training is a process of undoing limiting mental habits that are no longer useful. Because nothing is being put into the body or brain, there are no side effects. Many patients report experiencing increased focus, relief, happiness, & freedom from medication.

What Conditions Can Neurofeedback Help?

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Migraines & Headaches
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Mild Depression
  • Stroke
  • Mild Head Injury
  • Chronic Pain

  • What is A Typical Neurofeedback Session?

During each 30-45 minute session, you will sit in a comfortable chair. Sensors are placed on the head to detect brainwave signals, and these signals are transmitted to a computer with special software that amplifies the data. The computer allows you to watch for graphics for visual feedback. If you are able to regulate the waves correlated with attention and arousal, the graphics and audio will remain uninterrupted, while large deviations will cause a momentary dim in image. The brain responds to the feedback and moves towards more adaptive and flexible functioning. During the course of repeated sessions, typically 20 to 40, you will change your brain patterns to improve attention, focus, energy, and increase your ability to respond effectively under stress and pressure.

    How Neurofeedback Works

The NeurOptimal proprietary neurofeedback system is highly personalized brain training software that prompts the central nervous system to help make the best use of your brain’s neural resources.

Neurofeedback training for the brain is similar to physical training for the body. Much of our suffering comes from pervasive recurring thoughts and feelings in which our minds become emotionally stranded or cognitively "stuck".

Neurofeedback prompts the brain to draw from its existing resources and pull itself out of these mental "ruts". The result is a more open and positive mindset in which obstacles are more manageable and problems more resolvable.

Much like a mirror that promotes self-correction, the neurofeedback program monitors your brain waves and then provides "feedback" to your central nervous system about what it has just done. When the software detects a tremor in your brain wave pattern, it sends an audible or visible signal that encourages the brain to "reset" and self-correct.
