May 14, 2013 (WPVI) -- How does this sound? Shave at least five years off of your face without ever going under the knife? No surgery, no injections, no chemicals, no down time. We found two holistic treatments promising to make you look and feel younger the all natural way.

"I think my face looks better subtly," says Ruth Ann Dubb of Center City. "People will say, 'You look eally good.'" Dubb is choosing holistic needles over injection treatments or surgery."I wouldn't think of cutting my face or getting a Botox injection," she says. "This is a wonderful alternative because it's about health."

At the Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine at Jefferson University Hospital, Dr. Jingduan Yang, the Director or Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, is tapping into the basic principles of acupuncture to restore a youthful glow, on the spot.

"I always tell my patients that when they come in for health lift, I give them a face lift as a bonus," he laughs.

"Do you know what I see? I see a refreshment," says patient Lee Ducat. Dr. Yang strategically places each needle, stimulating collagen reproduction and smoothing fine lines."It lifts the face, tightens the muscles," he says. Dubb says the tiny needles only pinch a bit."Once they are in it's very relaxing," she says.

Here's the health bonus: Each facial acupuncture point also opens the energy channels to key internal organs like the liver, spleen and kidneys. "Your face is really a reflection of your health, so beauty is not superficial," Dr. Yang says.

Meditation Can Provide Greater Pain Relief than Powerful Medication

""PRACTICING MEDITATION can ease pain better than powerful drugs such as morphine, according to researchers from North Carolina and Wisconsin. Findings showed that just 80 minutes of meditation training could provide fast and effective pain relief. The details of the new research were recently published in the Journal of Neuroscience.  Free meditation classes are offered at Tao Institute. Please call us at (856) 802-6888 for more information.

New York Times: Hold the Chemicals, Bring on the Needles

""JANE BECKER, a composer and solo pianist, celebrated her 50th birthday at the dermatologist, paying $1,500 for shots of Restylane and Botox. But three months later, their wrinkle-smoothing effects wore off. So, she turned to a less-artificial youth tonic: facial acupuncture. Read the full article.
