Ruonan Zhang, L.Ac., L.O.M., M.D. (China)
Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

Ruonan ZhangDr. Ruonan Zhang has over ten years of clinical experience applying acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and western medicine.  Dr. Zhang is experienced in treating a variety of internal diseases, cerebral vascular disease, Bell's palsy, cervical syndrome, and herniated lumbar disc.  Dr. Zhang treats various pain conditions, periarthritis of the shoulder, and degenerative osteoarthropathy.  One of Dr. Zhang’s specialties is to provide complementary services to chronic cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy or surgery. Common side effects associated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy such as pain, inflammatory reactions, fatigue and nausea can be treated effectively with acupuncture and herbal medicine while improving patients’ immune system functions. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment can also shorten lengthy recovery time after cancer surgeries.

Dr. Zhang received her Medical Doctor degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Xianyang, China.  She received her Master’s degree in integration of Traditional and Western Medicine from the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, China. She had previously worked as an attending physician at Shaanxi University of TCM Affiliated Hospital in Xi’an and the No. 451 Hospital of Chinese PLA. She completed a research fellowship in the mechanism of Traditional Chinese Medicine on anti-tumor at Institute of Materia Medica of Fourth Military Medical University under the guidance of a cancer research expert, Professor Wang San Hu. She also studied traditional acupuncture from a well-known acupuncturist Dr. Guo Er Fu. Dr. Zhang has published over ten articles of clinical research on the key professional periodicals in China. Her Master’s degree thesis was collected into Excellent Master’s Thesis in China’s authoritative National Periodicals Database.

Since she relocated to the U.S., she has been working with Dr. Jingduan Yang at Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine in Thomas Jefferson Hospital and Tao Institute of Mind & Body Medicine, doing research on the acupuncture and herbal treatments of chronic Lyme disease, chronic cancer, pain, and other complex conditions.

Dr. Zhang treats her patients holistically. She believes that a human body constantly shifts between being healthy, quasi-healthy, and sick. TCM practitioners use acupuncture and herbal medicine to raise positive energy and remove sickness-causing energy, increase immunity, and adjust the body from “sick” to “quasi-healthy” to “healthy.” Treatment in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine helps patients use his/her own system to fight against illness. It is a continuous healing process aimed at minimizing suffering, building confidence, and improving one’s quality of life.
