Beyond Coping: A Group for Living Mindfully with Chronic Illness
This is an 8-week group experience designed to take you into new territory — past “hanging in there” and beyond merely “coping” with chronic Lyme disease or other illness. Together we’ll explore the well-documented benefits of mindfulness practice for reducing the stress, anxiety, and depression that often accompany and can even intensify symptoms. We’ll learn gentle ways of working with our own energy to enhance wellness, through Qi Gong, Hatha Yoga, and Sensory Awareness. And, most important, we’ll share the rich wisdom of the group in offering support without judgment or the need to fix each other.
8 Saturday mornings: May 9, 16, 23, 30; June 6, 13, 20, 27.

Chinese medicine has a long history of using diet as a medicinal tool and Chinese Diet Therapy is part of that tradition. The idea that food is also medicine is deeply rooted in the Chinese culture. Chinese medicine has a unique way to assess foods. Practitioners not only look at nutritional components, but also consider the food’s color, taste, texture and shape. Foods with specific colors and tastes nourish specific parts of the body and correct specific imbalances. Dr. Jingduan Yang, a board-certified physician and an expert in the traditional Chinese medicine, will introduce the basic concepts of dietary therapy of classic Chinese medicine and how one can apply in his/her daily life. Dr. Yang will also answer questions from audiences.
